There are plenty of parks in Enola, PA, to satisfy your desire for a relaxing day of picnicking, and we’ve put together a list of the best and most beautiful of ’em all right here.
In order to really hone in on the perfect location for picnicking and relaxation, we looked for places with one (or more) of the following charming characteristics:
Whether you want to get the whole family together for a summer barbeque (I’ll take a hot dog, please!) or you’re looking for a serene spot to kick back with your significant other, there’s something for everyone in any of these great parks in Enola, PA.
The first Enola park we picked offers possibly the best views on the entire list, or even the entire Central Pennsylvania region. Negley Park is located up on a huge hill, so it overlooks the city of Harrisburg and the Susquehanna River down below.
Here, you can utilize the two large pavilions with over 30 picnic tables to eat or gather outside with friends and family. Sit in the shade and gaze at the gorgeous skyline, or pack up your picnic lunch and stroll down the two miles of walking trails this park provides.
In addition, you’ll find softball and baseball fields, pickleball and tennis courts, and a playground for the kids, all within Negley Park.
Another popular spot for picnickers is Acri Meadow Park. This 4-acre park offers tons of things to do for visitors of all ages. Find a spot to bird-watch, play a round of horseshoes, hit the playground, or set up your snackables at one of the many picnic tables or the reservable pavilion. You can also utilize the softball and baseball fields or basketball and volleyball courts.
In addition, Acri Meadow Park allows non-motorized boating and fishing in Conodoguinet Creek. The creek is another great spot to have some much-needed picnic and relaxation time with the sound of running water right in your ear.
If you’re looking for another access point to Conodoguinet Creek, come to West Fairview Park. This 25-acre park provides ample space to picnic, play on the sports fields and courts, or kick back in the soft grass.
Your kids will have a blast at the playground, and you can hit several riverfront restaurants on the ride home since the Susquehanna is just a stone’s throw away.
Wildwood Park is a great place for picnickers and relaxers alike, as well as any curious kiddos who want to learn more about nature. Boasting a beautiful nature center and a never-ending schedule of educational classes and experiences, this nature preserve is perfect for escaping the sights and sounds of the city and immersing yourself in nature.
With seven unique trails to choose from and what seems like miles of open meadow, Wildwood is one of our favorites on this list.
With 60 acres of sprawling land in Central Pennsylvania, Siebert Park is filled with all kinds of fields, trails, pavilions, and other fun park amenities. Aside from several sports fields, a running track, a playground, and a pool, you’ll also find areas for hiking, biking, and boating.
Siebert Park is also home to hundreds of sky-high maple trees, making it an ideal spot to enjoy the changing leaves when fall comes around. Visitors can rent out pavilions for a picnic or even hold parties at the park’s Education, Environment, and Recreation center.
Over in Harrisburg, you can visit Italian Lake Park to get the perfect backdrop for your romantic and relaxing picnic. Built in 1901 by architect Warren Manning as part of Harrisburg’s City Beautiful Movement, this fantastic park near Enola features impressive landscaping, gurgling fountains, winding paths, and an amazing view of Italian Lake, making it one of the most popular picnic spots on our list.
Last but not least is Ridley Park, which is famous for its free 18-hole disc golf course. If “frolfing” isn’t really your thing, you can also fish, hike, bike, or relax at the large pavilion located in Ridley Park. This is an excellent park for the whole family because you can all relax and play in different ways throughout the day.
